This is an issue near and dear to our hearts at Afia and we wanted to do what we could to help out at this year’s event. We met a lot of great people; from consumers to Community Mental Health workers to other volunteers. It was a great day filled with inspiring stories and a lot of fun. Most importantly, it shed some light on an issue that gets way too little most days.
The one thing that most stands out for us about this event, is that it really involves the consumers themselves and provides them a real opportunity to be heard and take action that they may otherwise not be able to take. There were tents to register to vote, areas to meet with legislators, and a microphone for them to share their stories. We highly recommend getting involved in this event if you are able!
